Presented question: Has Social Media effected the Film Industry?
For my blog post I decided to discuss the question – “has social Media effected the film industry?” and the way it is generally operated. The film in industry is one of the most lucrative and complex industry in the world. Bringing in billions of dollars through films and advertisements, the film industry is a titan of the consumer market. With the film Industry being such a large part, social media and the film industry were bound to cross paths as advertisements became a big part of both of their markets. However, Social media had various unforeseen effects on the film industry that caused the market to change forever. According to Huffington Post the social media has become an advocate for films and the people who watch them. It has allowed us to be connected to them throughout social circles. The internet and social media has given birth to fandoms, allowing us to promote films and even bring awareness. With the example of the film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens used as an example, it was said that the trailer views alone broke records. This was only possible through the usage and portions of social media. Even social media icons have done their part to promote different film. Social media has proved its self to be a very healthy contributor in the fil industries’ success. Another example can be seen in the article by Social Media Today. In their article, they give an example of how The Hunger Games is the one movie to date that created an entire campaign on social media for its film. Moves like these propel the film industry into a new light. Apart from the advertisement aspects of the film industry and how social media has changed its infrastructure, Social media has also given a new wave of collaboration art forms for up and coming filmmakers as explained in the Article by Mastering Film. According to Mashable.com, this is done is through the promotion of films through social media on sites like “Go Fund Me”. With sites like these the audience has direct control of what films they would like to actually support and stand behind. Movie promotion and interaction has never been easier and this is all thanks to Social Media. With aspects like self-promotion easier, Hollywood’s once closed off doors to talent has now become an open floodgate of opportunities for those who wish to achieve stardom. According to la fabbricadellarealta.com , social media have given a way for those how would otherwise not make it to Hollywood, a chance to gain their fame through avenues like YouTube and Instagram. In conclusion, I think the future of the film industry and its connection to social media will only continue to grow and become more intertwined. As we step further into the age of connectivity, film will have no choice but to keep up with the ever changing innovator that is “Media”.
